Domaine Delubac

Is there a tale ready to be told at the opening of each bottle? With the Delubac brothers, the answer is yes, and doubly so.

L’Authentique, for instance, the estate’s flagship cuvée, is a heady stroll through old vines, knockin’ on heaven’s door. On the way you might bump into Bruno, the older brother, walking the rows and blowing in the wind. He always lets nature decide, being a force of nature himself. Discreet, but not silent, he can talk about the care vines need, and about organic-viticulture principles, which are full of common sense. “L’Authentique” could also be Vincent, the younger Delubac, and head winemaker. According to him, the family’s history is a stream of anecdotes, coursing through the conversation.
He certainly has plenty of material: the family’s Cairanne roots date back to 1744. Listening to Vincent, you realise how important their grandfather was, and not just because he gave the estate impetus or taught the two siblings to pick truffles. From him, and their father too, Bruno and Vincent doubtless understood that in order to safeguard a terroir and a tradition, one must be able to challenge one’s habits.
Bob Dylan always said so: “There is nothing so stable as change”. The Delubac brothers have thus evolved and progressed while retaining family continuity. This is reflected in Les Bruneau, a cuvée named after the area where their great-grandparents lived, and which draws its character from vinifying the varieties separately: powerful yet supple, finely hewn yet lushly fruity…
“Drinkability, that’s the secret. A successful wine is a bottle that you open and finish in one go.” Just like a story… and without thinking twice about it!
